Westside Cowboy – Can’t See

Manchester quartet Westside Cowboy recorded “Can’t See” on day one of their New York sessions with producer Loren Humphrey, who’s worked with Arctic Monkeys, Lana Del Rey, and Wunderhorse. They took the song apart and rebuilt it from scratch, packing a riff, verses, choruses, and a conga breakdown into under three minutes.

The track moves like it’s running somewhere, though the band won’t say whether it’s running toward you or with you. Guitar lines chime and push forward while Reuben Haycocks and Aoife Anson-O’Connell trade the phrase “you can’t see but you try” back and forth, building tension before everything bursts open. It’s the second single from their upcoming EP “So Much Country ‘Till We Get There”, out January 16 via Island Records’ imprint Adventure Recordings.

Westside Cowboy started when Jimmy Bradbury asked Haycocks, Paddy Murphy, and Anson-O’Connell if they wanted to form a band during his shift at a music shop. They learned some covers, then wrote all five songs for their debut EP “This Better Be Something Great” within two weeks. Now they’re playing sold-out shows across the UK and prepping for a massive European tour supporting Geese in March.
